I’m going to hold my hands up and admit that I never actually played the original God Of War trilogy, and my first experience with the series was 2018’s God Of War semi-reboot.
The 2018 game did, of course, tell me everything I needed to know about who Kratos was before he became a sad dad – and I was very aware of God Of War as a series. With that said, I’ve always meant to go back and revisit those early games. Now, it seems, I’ll have the perfect excuse.

According to industry insider Nick Baker of Xbox Era, the first three God Of War games will be getting a fresh coat of paint for release on PlayStation 5. This isn’t too surprising, given Sony has now released remasters of The Last Of Us, Marvel’s Spider-Man, Ghost Of Tsushima, and the Uncharted trilogy. Bloodborne fans will simply have to continue to scream into their pillows until they pass out.
«I, for a long time, have been a person who has bemoaned the direction God of War went somewhat, and have yearned for the hack-and-slash OG God of War games. I just love them so much», Baker said (via GGRecon).
«I told a friend of mine who also loves the OG God of War trilogy that this might be happening, then they got very excited. And I’ve heard that we might be getting the original God of War trilogy remastered on PlayStation.»
Baker stresses he’s not certain on the exact details, but is fairly sure the 2013 spinoff/semi-sequel God Of War: Ascension won’t be included in the collection.
«The other thing I’m not clear on and I want to get detail on is, is this a straight-up port of what we got on PS3? In which case, I’m somewhat less excited. Or is this something more involved, more in the remake realm?»
With the original God Of War poised to celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2025, we wouldn’t bet against a release then. Watch this space.
